Proverbs for Kids!

     We have been very neglectful of this blog but I've been inspired!  The book of Proverbs has always been inspirational and practical to me and I've always wanted to share those pieces of wisdom with our campers. Many proverbs are already directed towards young people even though we all can benefit from each and every verse.  So when I found the book, Proverbs for Kids - A Family Devotional Guide by JoHannah Reardon, I just had to share my interest.
     Here's just a little background about the book of Proverbs.  Proverbs was mostly written by King Solomon early in his reign.  It is full of common sense sayings for teaching people how to live godly lives through wise thoughts.  Solomon wanted to pass on practical advise in a short, concise way.  What a perfect way to teach our children how to be wise, fair and honest - with quick, practical examples!  Proverbs covers an vast array of topics like self control, discipline, family & marriage, temptation, wealth & poverty and seeking truth.  As you study Proverbs, you will understand that knowing God is the key to wisdom.
     Hopefully I will be diligent about posting inspirational proverbs or proverbs that relate to our campers and their families.  I also hope that you sit down with your children and introduce them to the book of Proverbs.  This is a quick and simple way to discuss real and important issues in your family's life.  Maybe you can add in a little of your own wisdom as well!

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young -
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance -
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 1:1-7
